Greg Avioli has many interests and passions, but business, finance, and law have always called to him. Greg graduated at the top of his class at UNC Law with a Constitutional law degree (which also happens to be one of his favorite topics to discuss). Since then, Greg hasn’t hesitated about throwing himself into a new business, growing it from the ground up.

In 1998, Greg Avioli joined the National Thoroughbred Racing Association (NTRA). He is best known for his work within the organization, especially as he handled many roles and responsibilities. His roles included general counsel, deputy commissioner, chief operating officer, and interim CEO.

Greg Avioli’s work with the NTRA led to him being hired as Breeder’s Cup, Ltd’s CEO in 2007. Greg worked hard for the next six years to expand the Breeders’ Cup Championship to 2-day events with over twenty million dollars in annual purses. In 2008, Greg was even listed in Sports Business Daily as one of the “six people to watch in the horse racing industry.”

In 2011, Greg Avioli decided it was time to move to his next role. He signed on to be the CEO and president of Stronach Group, overseeing MI Development’s racing properties and more. This led to his next role as Managing Director at Teneo Strategy. At Teneo, Greg was responsible for advising multi-national clients in the gaming, entertainment, and sports sectors. A few years later, Mr. Avioli became the Executive Vice President of b spot(™), managing licensing, regulatory, and government affairs for the US legal online gambling platform.

In 2015, Greg Avioli became the President and CEO of Thoroughbred Owners of California. In this role, he led the trade association representing the commercial interests of over seven thousand horse owners and negotiated for owners’ shares in wagering. He also advocated with the state regulators and legislators on various issues, including animal welfare.

Currently, Greg Avioli is focused on several different ventures. He has been a Limited Partner with Emerald Park Capital since 2019. He assists in capital formation with a focus on the cannabis industry. Likewise, given his expertise, Greg helps to develop strategies and follow invested assets.

Greg’s travel endeavors are not just occasional leisure trips; he has accumulated an impressive tally of over three million flight miles through a combination of work-related and personal journeys.

His recent travel escapades took him to the enchanting countries of Italy and Norway. Undeterred by the miles already traversed, Greg Avioli is still working on his globetrotting adventures.
